If you’ve ordered one of our coloring books, you can select 14 photos to be turned into coloring book pages to go along with your fabric book. You can also purchase an extra pack of 12 photos for $4 from the Megnificent Made Etsy store.

To find out more about how to select photos for your coloring book and how the process works, visit this post about Photo Picking!

Once you’ve chosen your photos, you need to get them to Megnificent Made so we can work with them, print them off and send them with your book.

You could send them by email to MegnificentMade@gmail.com, but with 14 photos that could be tedious and difficult to fit into an email. If you choose this route please include what order these photos go with and any other information you think is important.

Flickr is one way of sharing photos I highly recommend. I’ve been using it for years. It has many options for keeping your photos private and safe, is easy to use and navigate, and for these purposes is ideal! Flickr is run by Yahoo! and allows you to upload photos for free. Larger bandwith accounts are available by annual subscription but not necessary. Once you’ve signed up for an account with Flickr and uploaded your photos, make the flickr user MegnificentMade your contact. (Do a search for user Megnificentmade and click “add as contact”) If you are keeping your photos private, be sure to add me as a friend or family so I can access and download your photos to work with them.

Photobucket is another popular option. Once you’re a member here, create an album with your coloring book photos and then email the album to megnificentmade@gmail.com. Be sure that your account allows me to download photos from the album!

Picasa is a google run photo hosting site. I’ve been happy with anything google so I assume this would be no less spectacular! Again, you can make a photo album and share it with megnificentmade@google.com. Be sure your security settings allow downloading!

aside from these website made specifically for sharing photos, you can try a file hosting site. One I recommend is MediaFire. File transfer websites like these allow you to upload large files or multiple files to a website. You are then given a private link that you can send others to download them. If you choose MediaFire, put all of your photographs into one folder and send the download link to megnificentmade@google.com.

Whatever option you choose, please make sure that you specify what order these photos will be going with. Thank you and good luck! Contact me with any issues or questions you have at any time!

How To (Order from Megnificent Made)

Or any etsy store really.

I’ve had some confusion on how the etsy store works and how to order items. I hope this post will make it clearer what options you have available for payment and how your order is processed.

First thing you need to know is that behind every Etsy shop is a human being that sees and processes every order. Unlike big websites like Amazon, we see and manually handle everything that comes through our store so you can ask questions and be assured that mistakes, in most cases, will be caught and help can be given.

Another thing you need to know is that if you are ordering items that come from different etsy sellers, each item will be paid as a separate order with separate shipping as they are coming from separate people in separate places.

And finally, you do need to be a member of etsy to purchase on etsy. This is usually the case with most online stores. You need to be able to sign into etsy the same way you would sign into ebay or amazon. Go ahead and create a user name and log in. It’s a great place to join! I also recommend signing up for the newsletter, they send along really great selections from etsy sellers every day and it’s a great way to find gifts.

How To (Order on MegnificentMade)

The first thing you will see is your shopping cart. Every time you select an item for purchase it gets put in your shopping cart. At this point you can order or you can continue shopping. An item in your shopping cart has not been purchased yet! If you’re shopping around you can get back to your shopping cart by clicking on the shopping cart link in the upper left corner of the screen. This feature is pretty much the same as online store and I don’t expect any problems here. If you’re ready to check out, click on check out!

How To (Order on MegnificentMade)

This next screen is where you commit to buying your item. On this screen you will see your item added with the shipping and handling total. If you’ve purchased from multiple shops, each shop will show it’s item (or more than one) added up with the shipping charges for a total charge. Often if you purchase more than one item, there will be an initial charge for shipping, and a few dollars shipping extra per additional item. This is where the human beings behind the stores is a big plus. We put in these prices as a general guide but many etsy sellers will refund excess shipping charges if they turn out to be more than necessary.

On this screen you can also add information you’d like to share with the seller. If you have a custom item you can add details here. At the Megnificent Made store I sell fabric notebooks and the buyer has a choice as to what kind of writing utensils and paper they’d like included. This is where you can share that information. If you are purchasing a Megnificent Made Custom Coloring Book, you can give little bits of information like how you will be getting your photos to me or any special instructions.

When you click on COMMIT TO BUY, you’ve placed your order.

The next step is to enter your shipping details. If you’re a regular on etsy you normally have an address saved. If you’re ordering from paypal you will be entering an address in the paypal forms as well. This is the address I use for shipping regardless of what you enter in your paypal form. Make sure this is where you want your items to arrive!

How To (Order on MegnificentMade)

This window is important. With the etsy store, Ordering and Paying are two different activities. Most etsy stores accept paypal because as an etsy seller paypal is used to pay our shop bills. You can see what other options your seller accepts near where I’ve placed the pink “X”. This seller takes money order or check. The Megnificent Made shop accepts Money Order and you can find more about where to send, and who to make them out to under the seller’s profile.

If you’re paying by check or money order, your internet steps end here. Get to the bank and send out your payment. As an etsy seller we can see in our website who bought something and we have the option of checking a box next to your name when payment is received and when we have shipped the item. When we get your payment in the mail, we go into the shop and check that box. When we get email notification of your paypal payment, we go into the shop and check that box. It’s a human involved activity and you can expect contact from us if there is an issue with payment. You can also contact us at any time.

If you’re using paypal, go right ahead and click “Pay Now”

A lot of people don’t realize that you can pay with credit card without being a paypal member. To use this option click “Pay Now”

Again, if you pay with paypal, go right ahead and sign in.

It is often overlooked but I’ve highlighted here that you can pay with credit card without being a paypal member. Follow those links to go through the process.

Remember, at any time you can contact your seller and the etsy store is a much more human involved process than big shopping websites. We’re here to help! Happy shopping! Etsy is a wonderful place.

Photo Picking 101

October 22, 2009

Megnificent Made will turn your photos into coloring book pages that easily tuck into their hand made fabric books. Parents will love seeing what creative mark their kids can put on their memories, and kids will love coloring in the people and places they know.

The book is hand made in bright, fun cotton fabrics and closes tight with velcro. They feature pockets to hold your children’s crayons and a fabric flap that will protect their artwork. The book has a sturdy cardboard backing sewn into the book so the kids can color in their lap on the go.

Each coloring book page measures 5×7 and is single sided so that their artwork can be easily framed. It’s a creative twist on framing your vacation photos!

With the purchase of each hand made fabric coloring book, you’ll receive crayons and 14 custom coloring pages. Before making your purchase, have a selection of 12 photos of family fun, vacation and memorable moments ready to send to megnificentmade@gmail.com.

A set of 12 extra photos can be purchased for $4 without extra charge for shipping.

The book is easily refilled with more photo pages or even blank copy paper making it a long lasting carry along to keep your kids busy.

This post is to help guide customers in selecting photos for their coloring books. Any photo can be turned into a coloring book page, but following these tips will help you choose photos that turn out clearer and easier for kids to color.

The first key is to think of how simple coloring book pages are. Often they feature one or two characters drawn in simple outlines.

Choose photographs that have a definite focal point. Portraits work well. The main subject should fill the majority of the space in the photograph because backgrounds can be busy and distracting. Photos may be cropped to minimize background noise. Large groups of people are difficult as well. Many people in a portrait mean the faces will be smaller and the detail will not be as clear. Small faces are also more difficult for kids to color!

Img2

In this photo you can see that my niece is front and center and absorbs the majority of the space. Her features are all clearly visible because the size is large enough and yet there is plenty of space to color. Note that the leaves in the background translate to a very busy and abstract space…shaggy carpets, shaggy dogs, waves and other non-definite shaped objects have potential to result this way!

Be aware of the contrast (brightness and darkness) of your photos
If you send a photo with a dark background and a very light foreground, you may lose a lot of the detail in the lighter part of the image. To preserve detail in lighter areas of the image, there could be a loss of detail in darker areas.

For example; if you’re wearing all black in a photo, chances are that area will print as mostly black or gray ink because otherwise features may be lost in lighter areas of the image such as your face!

Steps will be taken in editing to avoid there being too much black space (space kids can’t color for themselves!) but it may not always be possible to avoid it all together.

Images may be cropped
In order to get a clean image, crops may be made on your photo. Nothing important like faces or people will be cut if it is an obvious focus. Cropping is a good way to make the focal point more obvious in the photo. It can cut out busy backgrounds and make clean drawing surfaces such as faces larger.

Places are interesting too!
Kids would love to color in the places they know. Grandma’s house, a family cottage, the beach, a backyard; are all place a kid can add their creativity to. They can draw in the people they love and the things they like to do there. Take a photo of your car empty in the drive way and let them color it in as it will be packed for a trip. And who will be coming in the car?
Img1
This is a photo used in the coloring book I gave to my niece. Her book featured photos from our summer vacation and this one in particular is of the big pink house we rented for the week. She had mentioned it was her favorite part of the trip and she loved coloring this one in. As you can see, the plants are very detailed and therefore result in a lot of dark ink in the coloring book page. The dark car also prints with a lot of black area. The photo still features a lot of coloring space however, and works well!

Any questions or concerns with the photos you have sent will be addressed in an email. If you follow these tips the creation of your coloring book should go seamlessly!

I suggest that you collect your photos before making your purchase in the Megnificent Made Etsy Store. Your purchase of a coloring book allows for 14 photographs at 5×7 for coloring, and for an extra $4 you can add another 12. The pages are refillable and you can order more at any time!
